Tottenham are keen on exploring Alex Meret’s situation at Napoli, with the north Londoners keen to sign him as a replacement for Hugo Lloris.

According to Calcio Napoli, Alex Meret has emerged as a key target for Tottenham in the summer. Antonio Conte is keen on the Napoli stopper to replace Hugo Lloris, whose time at Spurs may end abruptly following some disappointing performances.

Tottenham have shown resilience over the last few weeks, coinciding with the club being without Hugo Lloris and manager Antonio Conte. While the Italian will return soon, as he recovers from gallbladder surgery, there are doubts over the Frenchman’s future.

Lloris has cost Tottenham several points this season due to multiple high-profile errors leading to goals. They had lost the grip on a possible title challenge earlier in the season, and as the mistakes continued, they feared a top-four place might be in jeopardy.

Conte reportedly wants Lloris out of the club, with a summer exit seemingly looking likely for the Frenchman. They have many names on their list to potentially replace the veteran goalkeeper, including Leeds United’s Illan Meslier and Brighton’s Robert Sanchez.

Earlier, there were reports of an imminent agreement with Fenerbahce star Altay Bayindir, who will become a free agent in the summer. Even if Spurs manage to sign the Turkish star, there are no guarantees they will consider him their next No.1.

Many assume Spurs will remain in the market for a top-level keeper to replace Lloris. Napoli’s Alex Meret has emerged on their list, as they could tempt him with Premier League football for next season.

Meret has been in sensational form all season for the Naples side. He has conceded only 15 goals all season and kept 12 clean sheets in 24 Serie A games. The 25-year-old Serie A ace will attract plenty of interest when the season ends.

Napoli remains reluctant to lose him as they recognise his worth in Luciano Spalletti’s side. The 25-year-old Serie A ace is a key member of this team, who are clear favourites to win the domestic title this season. The Italian giants are eager to extend his contract, but that will depend on the offer.

Premier League sides, like Tottenham, are in a position to make a financially suitable offer, both for Napoli and the player. Hence, the Serie A side will find it difficult to hold on to the keeper, who has a contract until 2024.

Whether Spurs are serious regarding Meret remains the question. The keeper will undoubtedly be interested in moving to England, and a lot will depend on what Napoli will do to keep the 25-year-old Serie A ace on board.
