Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in signing Franck Kessie from Barcelona this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Franck Kessie remains the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The north London giants have revisited their interest in the Barcelona midfield general from the January transfer window. And a summer approach might be on the cards.
Franck Kessie was one of the most coveted midfielders in the market when he joined Barcelona. The Ivory Coast international decided to leave AC Milan as a free agent last summer after five years at San Siro. But he has not enjoyed a fruitful stint thus far with Barcelona, as he has been a backup option for Xavi Hernandez.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed more game time in the last few weeks due to Pedri’s absence. But he has managed only 1,191 minutes of game time across 28 appearances. But despite falling down the pecking order, Kessie’s situation has not detracted potential suitors, including Tottenham Hotspur.
The north London giants were also keen on signing the former AC Milan talisman in January. But a move did not materialise as the player did not want to leave Barcelona after just six months. The Catalan giants were also not willing to part ways with him despite his lack of game time.
But Kessie will likely call time on his Barcelona spell if his situation does not improve in the coming months. While he has featured regularly in the last few games, he might not start when Xavi has a full-strength squad. And Tottenham will look to pounce on such an eventuality in the summer transfer window.
The Premier League heavyweights remain interested in the 26-year-old, and for a good reason. While Antonio Conte has several midfielders in his squad, he does not have an adept ball carrier. And Kessie’s versatility and set-piece ability make him an attractive option for Tottenham.
But the north London outfit will have to compete with Inter Milan for Kessie’s services this summer. For now, the Barcelona midfield general remains a target for Tottenham. It will be interesting to see if his stint at Spotify Camp Nou ends after just one year.
