Tottenham have initiated contract renewal talks with 29-year-old England forward Harry Kane amid interest from Manchester United.
According to Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur are keen on renewing the contract of star striker Harry Kane. The English international’s ongoing contract ends in the summer of 2024. With his contract set to expire in under 16 months, a lot of clubs have their eyes set on the 29-year-old, including Manchester United.
Kane has been among the best strikers in the English top flight for the last few seasons. And, there has been a lot of interest in his services for a few years now. But, the 29-year-old has not been able to make a move so far.
While Tottenham are keen on extending his existing contract, it will all depend on Kane. The English forward was all set to leave the club in the summer of 2021. He made it clear in an interview, but Spurs were keen to keep him at the club and they managed to do so.
Manchester City were set to land Kane. But they failed to test the resolve of Tottenham with a bid close enough to the asking price. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old English international has another opportunity to leave the club in the summer. And it will be interesting to see what he opts for.
Kane has been with Tottenham Hotspur since his days as a youth footballer. During his time at the club, he has gone from strength to strength. The England skipper has featured in 420 matches of the north London club, and finding the back of the net on 268 occasions. He also has 63 assists to his name.
The England international has scored the most number of goals in the history of Tottenham. And, he is enjoying yet another successful campaign in the top flight. Kane has featured in 34 matches so far this season, grabbing 20 goals and four assists.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to keep the 29-year-old at the club. Kane’s current deal ends in the summer of 2024, and they have already opened talks with the player over a new deal. While they might have just initiated the talks, the intent is clear. Spurs want their star man to stay and are ready to go all out to secure a new deal with the England skipper.
However, it won’t be an easy task. Harry Kane might decide his future depending on the club’s project. Clubs like Manchester United and Bayern Munich are interested in his services, which will make life difficult for Tottenham.
Manchester United, in particular, will be a big threat amid their rising stature under Erik ten Hag. And with the Red Devils desperate to sign a striker, Kane has become a top target. But it will be interesting to see how Tottenham fare in talks with the 29-year-old.
