Manchester United have reportedly been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong.

According to a report from Football Insider, Jeremie Frimpong has popped up on Manchester United’s radar. And the Red Devils will have to pay £40-50 million to sign the 22-year-old defender at the end of the season.

The Dutch defender has been a bright spark for Bayer Leverkusen this season, and he has been outstanding for the Bundesliga club. The talented young full-back has shown that he can add a new dimension to the side with his attacking capabilities. And the 22-year-old has chipped in with five goals and seven assists across all competitions.

Manchester United could certainly use a talented young full-back like him, especially with Aaron Wan-Bissaka expected to leave the club at the end of the season. The former Crystal Palace defender has failed to make his mark at Old Trafford. And he needs to leave Manchester United to get his career back on track.

He has already lost his starting place to Diogo Dalot and is unlikely to be a regular under Erik ten Hag. The former Ajax manager clearly prefers players who can offer something going forward as well and Frimpong will certainly be a quality acquisition in that respect.

The 22-year-old is enormously talented and he has a big future ahead of him. Working with a manager like ten Hag could help the youngster develop further and fulfil his immense potential. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career. And it will be interesting to see if Manchester United are willing to provide him with that opportunity, especially with Dalot at the club.

The Portuguese defender is currently the first-choice right-back at Old Trafford. And he will not want to be a backup option in the coming seasons. It remains to be seen how ten Hag accommodates the two young full-backs in his starting lineup.

Frimpong is more effective compared to the Portuguese defender going forward, and Dalot is a more reliable defender. Manchester United will hope to challenge for major trophies next season. And they need a deeper squad in order to compete on all fronts.

Having the two players at his disposal with certainly help ten Hag. But the manager will have to keep both players happy with ample game time. Meanwhile, the report from Football Insider adds that although he is valued at £40-50 million, Manchester United could get a deal done for a fee of around £30-35 million.

The Red Devils certainly have the finances to pay that kind of money. And it remains to be seen whether they can get a deal across the line in the summer. A move to the Premier League would be a major step up in the 22-year-old’s career, and he is likely to be excited to join a big club like Manchester United.
