La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on the progress of 17-year-old German attacking sensation Paris Brunner.

According to Spanish journalist Josep Capdevila, Paris Brunner has popped up on the radar of FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants have been closely monitoring the German attacking sensation for two years. And the Blaugrana will continue to follow his progress in the foreseeable future.

Paris Brunner started his youth career with Rot-Weiss Essen before joining VfL Bochum. And his stock has risen considerably since moving to Borussia Dortmund two and a half years ago. The 17-year-old has gone from strength to strength in the Black and Yellow’s academy. At the same time, he has made his mark in age-group football on the international level.

Brunner has 31 goals and seven assists in 43 appearances for Borussia Dortmund’s various youth teams. The youngster has an even more impressive record for Germany’s under-19 side, scoring seven times in nine outings. And the German attacking sensation has captured the attention of Barcelona with his progress.

Barcelona will look to lay down a succession plan for Robert Lewandowski in the coming years. The Polish striker has been excellent for the Blaugrana and is leading the scoring chart in La Liga. But he is well into his thirties and approaching the final phase of his career. So Barcelona will need to be ready for life after Lewandowski.

A few strikers have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar. But the Catalan outfit’s priority long-term target seems to be Vitor Roque. However, Paris Brunner is also an option worth considering. And with the 17-year-old capable of playing across the frontline, he can potentially become an asset for Barcelona.

The German attacking sensation possesses qualities similar to another Barcelona target, Marcus Thuram. Meanwhile, the Catalan giants have been scouting the teenage wonderkid for nearly two years. And they have positive reports on Brunner’s progress during this period.

It is unclear if Barcelona will launch the offensive for Brunner anytime soon. But they will likely continue to monitor the 17-year-old German attacking sensation for the time being. It will be interesting to see if the youngster eventually arrives at Spotify Camp Nou.
