Chelsea are reportedly leading the race to sign 31-year-old Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar ahead of next season.

According to a report by Football Insider, Chelsea are the front-runners to land Brazilian international Neymar at the club ahead of next season. The Blues are the only club in the Premier League that can financially afford to sign the PSG forward. Neymar’s future at the French club is uncertain, and a move to England looks likely.

The PSG forward was brought to the club for a world-record fee of £200 million in 2017 from Barcelona. His contract at the French club ends in the summer of 2025. But, it seems he is likely to depart in the summer with things not working out between the club and the player.

The Brazilian international has featured in a total of 173 matches for PSG. He has found the back of the net on 118 occasions and has 73 assists to his name. Neymar has 195 goal contributions to his name at PSG. As per the stats, it has been a very successful stint for the player in France.

However,  the common belief is that he has failed to deliver what he brought to achieve. PSG owners spent a fortune on the Brazil international to help them win the UEFA Champions League which they have not managed yet.

Meanwhile, the ongoing season has been amongst his personal best. The 31-year-old has featured in 29 matches and has been involved in 35 goals. But, the reports suggest that he is falling out of favor at the club because of his behavior. And Neymar has been offered to several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea.

Ever since Todd Boehly took over the reins at Chelsea, a lot has changed. The new co-owner has spent a fortune on players. He has focused on signing young world-class players from across the globe. But, as per reports, he is all set to make a bold statement by signing Neymar from PSG.

Neymar’s arrival will bring quality on the flanks and with it a lot of media attention. The Brazilian’s arrival will boost their revenue and will also make them a lot more threatening while going forward.

Chelsea have already spent close to £300 million in the January window but are willing to spend another £80 million to land the Brazilian international. However, the Blues do not have him as a priority despite the meeting between the owners of the two clubs. It will be interesting to see if Neymar leaves PSG to join Chelsea ahead of next season.
