Premier League giants Chelsea want to sign 24-year-old Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the summer.
According to Simon Phillips via GiveMeSport, Chelsea are interested in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. The Blues have been scouting the 24-year-old forward for a while and want to bring him to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Phillips said: “Victor Osimhen is definitely one on the radar and last season, when the new owners came in, one of the first scouting missions they set up was to watch Napoli regularly.
“Then there was a few other players that they were watching as well. But he’s definitely one they have been scouting regularly this season and last season.
“He’s definitely on Chelsea’s shortlist of strikers and he’s probably quite high up there.”
Victor Osimhen has been in sensational form of late. The Nigerian international has caught the eye of many big clubs across Europe with his performances in Serie A. He has been exceptional in front of the goal. He has found the back of the net on 17 occasions this season.
The 24-year-old striker joined Napoli back in the summer of 2020 from LOSC Lille. Ever since his arrival he has been involved in 83 matches and has 58 goal contributions. He is currently the leading goal scorer in the Italian top flight having scored 16 goals in 17 matches.
Osimhen has played a major part in the Serie A club’s incredible run in the ongoing season. Napoli are currently top of the table with 56 points out of their 21 matches. They have a 13-point lead and are on course for their 3rd Serie A title.
Chelsea have spent a fortune on new players ever since the arrival of Todd Boehly. They are looking to build a team that can compete for all possible silverware. And, they are likely to go big again in the summer. Graham Potter wants to add an out-and-out forward to his ranks and the Chelsea boss has identified Osimhen as a potential candidate.
The Blues have been scouting the Serie A striker for a while and will push for his signatures in the summer. Potter wants a proper number nine to lead the attack and the Nigerian is a perfect fit for his plans.
Kai Havertz has been playing as a striker for Chelsea of late but he is not an out-and-out striker. As a result, the interest in acquiring the services of Osimhen is quite understandable. The London club will also look to sell Romelu Lukaku in the summer when he returns from his loan spell at Inter Milan.
Lukaku was re-signed by the Blues, but his return to the Premier League didn’t go according to plan. As a result, he was sent back to Inter Milan on loan. They will look to offload the Belgian forward and are also willing to offer him to Napoli in a player-plus-cash deal for the Nigerian striker.
Chelsea will have to pay around £89 million to sign the 24-year-old forward from Napoli. They have already spent over £600 million since the new owner arrived. And, it will be interesting it see if they can manage to pull off another big transfer.
