Manchester United could revisit their interest in Sofyan Amrabat in the summer, as Erik ten Hag eyes a notable midfield option.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United could battle Chelsea, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for Sofyan Amrabat in the summer. The 26-year-old World Cup semi-finalist was keen to move in January, but Fiorentina refused to let him depart.

Sofyan Amrabat was one of the best midfielders at the World Cup as he proved a solid presence in the Morrocan side that reached the last four. The Fiorentina midfielder’s consistent performances and determination in his position caught the eye of multiple suitors.

While many clubs sniffed around throughout January, Barcelona were the only one who attempted to sign him late on. Xavi Hernandez wanted a new midfielder to shore up the squad after admitting defeat to land Martin Zubimendi.

Amrabat’s high-energy style suited Xavi’s style, and the 26-year-old World Cup semi-finalist was keen on the move. Barcelona only made loan offers which contained an option to purchase at the end of the season. Fiorentina did not want to lose him, plus they felt the Catalans did not meet their valuation.

Manchester United also had glances towards the midfielder and remains interested in signing him when the summer window opens. Erik ten Hag managed to bring Marcel Sabitzer on loan on deadline day, but the Bayern Munich star may not represent a long-term option.

Hence, they could come in for Amrabat again in the summer but face competition from Chelsea and Barcelona. The Blues are a threat to any club pursuing top targets after showing their financial muscle in January.

They are in the market for a new central midfielder and prioritised Declan Rice. Recently, they may have shifted their focus away from the West Ham star, who may end up elsewhere, possibly Arsenal.

As for Amrabat, he dreams of playing for Barcelona and wanted the move in January. Despite the Blaugrana holding a firm interest in the 26-year-old World Cup semi-finalist, much will depend on their financial capabilities to sign the midfielder.

If they cannot manage the funds, Manchester United or Chelsea could swoop in for Amrabat, who remains desperate to leave Fiorentina. A big summer move could materialise for the midfielder, but his destination remains unknown.
