La Liga giants Barcelona consider 26-year-old Sofyan Amrabat a priority target for the summer.

According to MundoDeportivo via Fichajes.net, Barcelona will once again push for the services of Sofyan Amrabat in the summer. Barcelona tried to sign Amrabat in the January transfer window but Fiorentina rejected their bid. They still have him as a priority target and will once again bid for him.

Barcelona wanted to sign Sofyan Amrabat on loan with an option to buy but they couldn’t make it happen. People at the club are well aware of his capabilities and believe that if he is given the confidence, he can be amongst the best.

The 26-year-old came into the limelight after his heroics at the FIFA World Cup 2022. He had an exceptional tournament and played a key role in Morocco’s journey to the semi-final. Amrabat helped Morrocco become the first African nation to feature in a World Cup semi-finals.

The Fiorentina midfielder has played 85 matches during his time at the club. He has 27 appearances in the ongoing season. Amrabat has been a star performer for his team throughout the season. He is one of the first names on their team sheet.

A lot of clubs are interested in his services. But, as per the reports, Barcelona are way ahead of others in this battle. They pushed for his services till the very end of the transfer deadline day, and even the player was eager to join the club but a move wasn’t possible.

Xavi is a fan of the player and was behind this pursuit by Barcelona in January. The Barcelona manager wants him at the club in the summer. He wants to add a holding midfielder to his squad, someone who can provide a high work rate day in and day out.

The Barcelona manager is thinking about the near future, he wants a smooth transition in midfield where Sergio Busquets has been playing for ages. Signing the 26-year-old midfielder will give Xavi an option to play Frenkie de Jong up the field as well as rotate the midfield. It will also prepare Barcelona for Busquets’ departure. But signing him from Fiorentina won’t be that easy a task. They will have to pay around €40 million to acquire his services.
