Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to battle it out for the signature of David Raya.
Premier League clubs have their eyes set on David Raya. According to a report by Fichajes, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign the 27-year-old Brentford goalkeeper in the summer. His contract situation at Brentford might make it easy for the clubs to push for his signature.
David Raya’s contract at Brentford ends in the summer of 2024. The Spanish international is not interested in renewing his contract at the club and wants a bigger challenge. He has already rejected two contract proposals from the club. And it looks like he is all set to depart ahead of the next season.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank has openly talked about the goalkeeper rejecting contract proposals. Frank was smart enough to put a price tag on the 27-year-old while talking about his contract situation. The Brentford manager believes that Raya is worth at least £40 million, if not more.
David Raya joined Brentford back in the summer of 2019. He has been an integral part of the club ever since joining them. He played an important role in their promotion to the English top flight. The Spanish shot-stopper has been brilliant in the ongoing season.
Raya has featured in 22 matches in all competitions and has managed to keep eight clean sheets. He is among the best in the Premier League on current form. As a result, the interest in his services from the big clubs is understandable.
Manchester United are pushing for a Champions League spot under the leadership of Erik ten Hag. They are building a team that can bring back the glory days. However, the Red Devils want to add more stability to that position. David de Gea’s inconsistency in goal is something that ten Hag wants to improve. And adding Raya will solve a lot of headaches for the Dutch manager.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are looking to replace Hugo Lloris in the summer. He might have been a great servant for the club. But of late, things have not worked out well enough for him. The 36-year-old recently suffered a blow and has been sidelined by an injury for around six to eight weeks. Conte will go all out for Raya given the situation of Lloris.
As per the reports, even Chelsea are interested in Raya’s services. But, it does not really make sense because they already have two top-class goalkeepers in Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy. Graham Potter wants to sign the Brentford goalkeeper, but it will only make sense if they first let go of one of their shot-stoppers.
However, it will be interesting to see which club comes out on top and manages to acquire the services of the 27-year-old. One thing is sure, they will have to pay a sizeable price tag to sign him.
