Everton, Leeds United, and West Ham United are keen on a loan move for out-of-favour Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
According to The Sun, Kalvin Phillips is a loan target for a trio of Premier League clubs before the transfer deadline. West Ham United, Leeds United and Everton are keen, but Manchester City will unlikely do business before the transfer window shuts.
Premier League clubs will keep their eyes open for any last-minute deals that may spring up in the market. Some clubs like Everton, Leeds United and West Ham United remain available to business even this late in this window.
Incidentally, the trio are keeping tabs on Kalvin Phillips’s situation as the Manchester City midfielder struggles for game time. In the summer, he joined Pep Guardiola’s side but suffered from injury troubles early on. Yet, he made England’s squad for the World Cup but barely played meaningful games for the Three Lions.
After he returned to the club, Pep Guardiola criticised him for being overweight following the trip to Qatar. Those comments created a furore in the media as speculation about his long-term future grew. West Ham United showed an interest at the start of the month, but nothing came of it.
David Moyes is keen to add a midfielder, but he got restricted from doing proper business in this window. Having made few necessary signings, the West Ham manager would have liked a top-draw midfielder to balance the act in the position.
Similarly, under new boss Sean Dyche, Everton are keen on quality additions, particularly in midfield. Incidentally, the Toffees are yet to make a single signing this month, but they remain optimistic over a few targets. Dyche wanted a midfielder and even launched a £45 million bid for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, which the player rejected.
It is clear that Everton need a midfielder. Hence, they are keeping tabs on Phillips’s situation. They will open their doors to take him on loan until the season ends. But Manchester City will not allow a move. Similarly, Leeds United saw the opportunity and may have enquired about their former star.
Since they have already signed Weston McKennie late in the window, Phillips was only a shot in the dark for Jesse Marsch. However, they might still need to make a late move if the Manchester City midfielder becomes available, which seems unlikely as Pep Guardiola would not like the idea of losing more players after the departure of Joao Cancelo.
