Chelsea and Manchester United have contacted Bayern Munich about Marcel Sabitzer, as they eye a midfield signing before the deadline.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United and Chelsea have contacted Bayern Munich regarding Marcel Sabitzer. There is a clear need for midfield additions at both clubs, with the 28-year-old midfielder emerging as an option late in the window. And the Austrian international is reportedly open to leaving the Bundesliga champions.

Julian Nagelsmann rates Marcel Sabitzer. But there is a feeling he could become expendable if the right offer arrives. So far, Bayern have remained quiet in this window, but they have sprung to life in the latter stages as they look to carry out a few deals.

They signed Joao Cancelo from Manchester City on loan and could potentially offload Sabitzer before the deadline if the deal is right. Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly interested in the midfielder, with the Red Devils particularly keen following their current situation in midfield.

Christian Eriksen is effectively ruled out until late April, leaving Manchester United short of options in the centre. The Danish midfielder has become a key component in Erik ten Hag’s system, and his absence could hurt Manchester United in the top-four race.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United are in talks with Bayern to understand a potential deal for the 28-year-old midfielder. It is unclear whether it is a loan move or a permanent transfer for the Austrian, but he could become a good addition.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are on the ropes ahead of deadline day as they look to finalise a deal for Enzo Fernandez. Despite reports claiming they are willing to pay his €120 million release clause, the Blues want to structure payments rather than spend everything at once.

Romano insists Chelsea may look at targets other than Sabitzer. The need for a midfielder at Stamford Bridge is high after agreeing to a deal for Jorginho with Arsenal earlier today. The Italian international leaves a void in central midfield, which they had hoped Fernandez would fill.

Chelsea remain hopeful of signing the Argentine international, but they might even reignite interest in Sabitzer. The 28-year-old midfielder could be seen as a good alternative to the Benfica ace, and his experience in the game is key to any transfer.

For now, Manchester United may appear to lead the charge for the 28-year-old midfielder, although one cannot discount Chelsea to re-emerge at a later stage. It will be interesting to see if Sabitzer leaves Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich anytime soon.
