Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga is inching closer to joining Crystal Palace on loan for the rest of the season.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Albert Sambi Lokonga will likely join Crystal Palace ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline. The Arsenal midfielder will undergo his medical tests in some time. And the two clubs have already agreed to a loan deal for the 23-year-old.

Albert Sambi Lokonga would have had much hopes and aspirations when he joined Arsenal. The Belgian midfielder, who spent his formative years in his homeland, moved to the Emirates from Anderlecht 18 months ago. But he has failed to stamp his authority thus far at the north London club.

The 23-year-old has mostly managed to rake in starts in the UEFA Europa League. And the 23-year-old has only 861 minutes of game time thus far this season. Meanwhile, Lokonga’s travails have captured the attention of several clubs, including Crystal Palace.

Arsenal recently rejected an approach from AS Monaco for the young midfielder. But the emergence of Crystal Palace has changed the equation for the Gunners. And they have now agreed to a loan deal for the Belgian midfielder, who will move to Selhurst Park for the rest of the season.

The interest from Crystal Palace is hardly surprising, considering Luka Milivojevic is no spring chicken anymore. In addition, James McArthur has endured a frustrating season due to his fitness issues. So Crystal Palace needed to bolster the midfield unit, with Arsenal midfielder emerging as a target.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the agreement is already in place, with Lokonga keen on joining the Eagles. The 23-year-old will undergo his medical checks in some time, with Romano relaying the information from Simon Collings. And a late loan deal is thus on the cards for the youngster.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will soon complete the deal to sign Jorginho from Chelsea. And the arrival of the Italian international will mean Mikel Arteta will have enough quality in the midfield unit for the rest of the season. As for Lokonga, it will be interesting to see if he can secure regular game time if and when he joins Crystal Palace.
