Premier League duo Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly in touch with the representatives of Denzel Dumfries.
According to Calciomercato, Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United are in contact with 26-year-old Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries regarding a potential move to England.
The Dutchman has been at the Giuseppe Meazza since 2021 and has brought about much dynamism to Simone Inzaghi’s side. With seven goals and ten assists in 68 games across all competitions, Dumfries has done well for the Nerazzurri.
Dumfries is largely an attacking-minded player who loves to get forward. While he is excellent on the overlap and finding space, the defensive side of things could do with some work. However, his strengths make the 26-year-old a solid addition to a side that is willing to take chances in a high-risk, high-reward strategy.
Manchester United are experiencing a turnaround in fortunes under Erik ten Hag, and the Dutch manager could do with a new right-back. Diogo Dalot has reinvented himself at Old Trafford, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future at the club remains uncertain. Adding Dumfries to the roster will certainly give the Red Devils a boost in the role.
Erik ten Hag will be familiar with Dumfries given that the player spent the majority of his career in the Eredivisie. The Manchester United boss appears to be partial to his former Ajax players and others he is familiar with. And Dumfries has thus emerged as a viable target.
Chelsea are also keen on the player and have shown this season that money is not a barrier for them in making the right signings. Injuries to Reece James have handicapped Graham Potter’s side on the right flank. And it is understandable why they are seeking to bring in another player in the role.
The Blues have reportedly reached an agreement with Lyon for Malo Gusto who will arrive at Stamford Bridge in the summer. This gives Chelsea two young right-backs, both of whom can hold the role for years to come. It thus makes little sense for them to also add Dumfries to the roster. Whether signing Gusto will see Chelsea cool their interest in the Dutchman in the coming days remains to be seen.
Inter Milan appear ready to sell their star man for a deal worth over €50 million plus bonuses. The Serie A giants have already identified a potential replacement for Dumfries in Tajon Trevor Buchanan. With just days to go before the January transfer window slams shut, it remains to be seen if Dumfries remains in Serie A.
