Manchester United are reportedly considering a bizarre part-exchange deal involving Diogo Dalot to land Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries.

As reported by FC Inter News, Denzel Dumfries is a top target for Manchester United to bolster the right-back options. And the Red Devils are plotting a part-exchange deal involving Diogo Dalot to land the Dutch full-back, which seems like a ludicrous suggestion.

Denzel Dumfries has been one of the most highly sought-after right-backs in Europe in the last few years. Inter Milan won the race to sign him last year, beating several high-profile clubs to his signature. And the 26-year-old has superbly filled the void left by Achraf Hakimi’s departure.

The Dutch full-back is enjoying a solid 2022/23 season, chipping in with two goals and three assists in 20 appearances. In addition, the player has taken the 2022 FIFA World Cup by storm, recently scoring once and providing two assists in the Netherlands’ win over the USA. And Dumfries’s exploits have captured the attention of Manchester United.

The Red Devils will enter the market for a right-back next year, perhaps even as early as the January transfer window. That is because Diogo Dalot has been a constant presence on the right side of the Manchester United defence this season. Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has barely featured thus far in the 2022/23 campaign.

Erik ten Hag thus wants Manchester United to invest in a right-back next year, with Wan-Bissaka on the chopping block. Dumfries has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United, with the Red Devils submitting an enquiry for him. And they are now taking a concrete step to sign the Dutch full-back.

The report suggests Manchester United will offer Dalot in a part-exchange deal to bring down his price tag worth €60 million. That seems like a ludicrous claim, considering Dalot is one of the trusted players under ten Hag. And with Manchester United keen on offloading Wan-Bissaka, they will unlikely lose Dalot at the same time.

So the bizarre claims from the report will unlikely materialise. And it will be interesting to see if Manchester United will have another ploy to land Dumfries. With Inter Milan in financial distress, now is the time to pounce and sign the Dutch full-back.
