According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Wesley wants to join Barcelona when he leaves Flamengo. The Catalan giants want to sign the Brazilian defensive sensation on a one-year loan deal. But the Brazilian heavyweights are reluctant to accept a loan offer from Barcelona for the teenage prodigy.
Wesley is the latest prodigious prospect to rise to prominence in his homeland. The 19-year-old has been sensational in age-group football in Brazil and has gone from strength to strength at Flamengo. He joined the Mengao in January 2021 and has made rapid progress in the last two years.
The 19-year-old made his first-team debut for Flamengo in October 2021 and has turned out three more times since then. A right-back by trade, Wesley is the quintessential modern-day full-back. And the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors.
Barcelona will initially assign the Brazilian defensive sensation to Rafael Marquez’s side.
