La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for 18-year-old Argentine wonderkid Lucas Roman.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Albert Roge, Lucas Roman will become the first signing of the January transfer window for Barcelona. But the 18-year-old Argentine wonderkid will move to Barcelona B instead of joining the first team. The Club Ferro Carril Oeste prodigy will have his medical checks on Monday.

Lucas Roman has spent all his formative years with Club Ferro Carril Oeste, rising through the ranks at the Argentine club. The teenage whizkid graduated from the academy nearly a year ago in February 2022. And he is now a regular fixture Club Ferro after featuring prominently in the 2022 season.

The 18-year-old turned out 27 times in the league, chipping in with three goals and one assist. Roman’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, and several European bigwigs, including Barcelona, have set their sights on him. Interestingly, several high-profile clubs also wanted to sign the Argentine wonderkid a couple of years ago.

The Catalan giants are constantly in the market for the most prodigious prospects. And they are scouring around for a young striker who can be a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski. Even though Barcelona only signed the Polish striker last summer, it is worth noting that he is well into his thirties.

So Barcelona will need a succession plan for the veteran striker. And Gloukh has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona. Several other strikers, including Youssoufa Moukoko, are also on Barcelona’s radar. But the German international looks set to sign a new contract with Borussia Dortmund.
