Newcastle United are reportedly set to battle Aston Villa for Brazilian forward Luiz Henrique, valued at around €50 million by Real Betis.

According to ABC de Sevilla, as relayed by Sport Witness, Premier League sides Newcastle United, and Aston Villa will go up against each other for the signature of Luiz Henrique in the ongoing January transfer window.

The 22-year-old moved to La Liga from Brazilian side Fluminense in 2022 and has since taken to European football like a fish to water. The Brazilian forward has made 24 appearances for the Andalusian outfit, scoring thrice and assisting five more.

A right-winger, Henrique can also do a job on the other flank. Good in the air and technically sound, the youngster is a pacy customer with speed to burn. An able dribbler who is also good in the air, Henrique has the skills needed to strike it big in Europe.

Henrique’s performances this season have attracted attention from the Premier League. Aston Villa and Newcastle United are interested and have already made approaches for his services. Betis, however, hold the aces as the 22-year-old has a contract at the club until 2028.

The Brazilian’s current contract at the Benito Villamarin Stadium includes a €100 million release clause, not chump change by any means. The Verdiblancos know they have a star on their hands and are not keen to sell. It will take at least €50 million for them to even consider a deal this January.

Having missed out on Arnaut Danjuma, Aston Villa are still in the market for an attacker. After losing Danny Ings, they must bring in a difference-maker who can consistently inspire in the final third. Unai Emery’s counter-attacking style could certainly suit the Brazilian forward a tee.

Emery’s arrival has helped the Midlands side rediscover their form and push up the table. The Spaniard could lay the foundations for a skilled roster that needs just a few critical pieces to go to the next level. Henrique could be a long-term addition that provides a goalscoring threat for years to come on the right flank for Aston Villa.

Newcastle United have also turned out their fortunes and are today competing for a UEFA Champions League spot. Armed with the finances, the Magpies have what it takes to build a dynasty. Adding Henrique now could see them and beat the rush for a player who has immense potential.

A reborn Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy are Eddie Howe’s lone specialists on the right flank. Henrique’s arrival will give the Newcastle boss more options and also add some much-needed strength to find depth to his roster. And Newcastle should be able to afford to pay €50 million to secure his services.
