Brighton and Hove Albion will demand £100 million for Moises Caicedo, a target for Premier League bigwigs Chelsea.

Moises Caicedo has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks. And a report from The Times claims that Brighton & Hove Albion have told their fellow Premier League club to pay £100 million for his services.

Caicedo has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League. So it is hardly a surprise that clubs like Chelsea are looking to secure his services. The Brighton midfielder could prove to be a quality, long-term addition to Graham Potter’s side. And he could partner Mateo Kovacic at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield next term when Jorginho might move on.

The Italian international will be out of contract in the summer, and Potter will need to bring in a quality replacement. The Chelsea manager has worked with Caicedo during their time together at Brighton. And he knows all about the youngster’s strengths and weaknesses.

Graham Potter played a key role in the development of the 21-year-old midfielder. And the youngster is believed to be keen on a reunion with his former manager at Chelsea as well. Furthermore, the opportunity to play for a club like Chelsea will be attractive for most players.

The Blues have a formidable squad, and they have the resources to compete for major trophies. The transfer to Stamford Bridge would be a major step up in the young midfielder’s career. But it seems highly unlikely that his suitors will agree to pay the reported asking price for him this month.

The £100 million asking price is likely to drop down to a more reasonable amount at the end of the season. And it will be interesting to see if Chelsea decides to postpone their move for Caicedo instead of continuing to pursue him this month.

The Blues are currently fighting for a place in the top four, and they have improved their squad significantly during the January transfer window. Bringing in a quality midfielder like Caicedo could help them improve further and secure a top-four finish.
