Chelsea are reportedly interested in Amadou Onana and ready to make an offer for the Everton midfielder before the window shuts.

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea are ready to launch a bid for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana. The 21-year-old Belgian international is attracting interest as the Blues could take advantage of the crisis at Merseyside.

Chelsea are far from done in the January transfer window, as their spending could continue till the end of the month. Co-owner Todd Boehly has already brought in nearly half a dozen players in January and could look to sign more to strengthen the squad.

After signing Mykhaylo Mudryk, David Fofana, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos, and Benoit Badiashile, Boehly is now eager for a new midfielder. The area is of concern as current stars Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Conor Gallagher continue to underperform. N’Golo Kante remains out with injury, while his future is also a subject of concern.

Even Jorginho could depart, which could significantly weaken the position next season. Boehly does not want to wait until the summer and wants to sign a top-rated midfielder before the transfer window shuts. Chelsea have already failed in pursuit of Enzo Fernandez, while the likes of Moises Caicedo are on their shortlist.

Brighton & Hove Albion have already rejected an offer for Caicedo, with Chelsea reportedly preparing a fresh approach with improved terms. The Seagulls have made it clear they do not wish to sell the Ecuadorian midfielder this month, although a summer move may become possible.

Assuming Caicedo could become out of bounds for Chelsea, they are looking at alternatives as Everton midfielder Amadou Onana is their next target. The Blues have already opened talks with the Toffees for Anthony Gordon as they retain an interest in the young attacker after a failed summer move.

They have also communicated with Everton for Onana as they seek a solution in central midfield. They are reportedly willing to offer terms that would see the Toffees profit from the summer investment in the 21-year-old Belgian international.

As there is only over a week left in the transfer window, Chelsea will look to take advantage of the ongoing crisis at Everton. Onana has had a decent season since his arrival, but with the Toffees in a terrible state, he may remain open to a big move away.

Whether Chelsea manage to convince Everton remains the question. There are doubts, particularly after their summer debacle with the club for Gordon. Onana would be a good target, but he could cost a bomb.
