Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old French goalkeeper Alban Lafont from Nantes.

According to a report from Media Foot, Tottenham are looking to find a quality replacement for club legend Hugo Lloris. And they have identified his compatriot Alban Lafont as a potential target. The 23-year-old has been an impressive performer for French club FC Nantes and he is highly rated around Europe.

Alban Lafont has the potential to develop into a top-class goalkeeper, and he could prove to be a quality long-term addition to Tottenham. The Frenchman will have one year left on his contract at the end of the season. And he could be available for a reasonable price in the summer transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can agree on a deal for him in the coming months. The north Londoners have been linked with a number of goalkeepers, including Robert Sanchez, in recent weeks. Apparently, Premier League rivals Leicester City are keeping tabs on the player as well.

The opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur will be a tempting proposition for the 23-year-old Frenchman, and he is likely to have his head turned if there is a concrete offer on the table. Joining Spurs would help him improve as a player, and it would be the ideal next step in his career.

Tottenham need to replace Hugo Lloris in the coming months after his error-prone performances this season. The 36-year-old has been a key player for the north London club over the years. But he has regressed over the past year, and his error-prone performances have cost the Premier League club dearly.

Antonio Conte needs to bring in a first-choice goalkeeper at the end of the season. And Lafont could prove to be a quality long-term investment. Lloris could still be an important part of the Tottenham squad, especially with his experience and leadership qualities.

However, his role needs to be reduced to that of a squad player if Tottenham are to progress as a side. The 36-year-old World Cup winner is no longer good enough to start for a club hoping to succeed in the UEFA Champions League and challenge for the major trophies.
