La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly contacted the entourage of 30-year-old Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and Marcelo Brozovic are in contact over a possible January move. The Catalan giants are keen on signing the 30-year-old midfielder from Serie A club Inter Milan this month. And the player is open to departing from San Siro.

Marcelo Brozovic has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri initially signed the Croat on loan from Dinamo Zagreb before completing a permanent deal in July 2016. And he has gone from strength to strength at San Siro.

Brozovic played a pivotal role as Inter Milan won the Serie A title in the 2020/21 season. And he continues to be an instrumental figure for the Italian giants. The 30-year-old has made over 300 appearances for Inter, chipping in with 30 goals and 27 assists. And the player’s progress has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona will prioritise signing a successor to Sergio Busquets this year. The veteran midfielder remains a regular for the Blaugrana but is approaching the end of his glittering career. So Barcelona must delve into the market to identify the player to fill his void in the coming years. And Brozovic has emerged as a viable target.

While Barcelona initially looked unlikely to sign a player in the January transfer window, Memphis Depay’s impending departure has opened up the possibility. The Dutch attacker is closing in on joining Atletico Madrid in the coming days. And his exit will open up a spot in the Barcelona squad.

More importantly, Depay’s exit will enable Barcelona to afford the wages of a new signing. Brozovic is thus an attractive proposition for the Blaugrana this month. And the Catalan giants have already contacted the 30-year-old Croatian midfielder’s representatives. In addition, the player is open to joining Barcelona this month.

It is unclear if Inter Milan will be ready to part ways with a pivotal figure midway through the season. And a loan deal might not be an appealing prospect for the Serie A giants either. So it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can secure the services of the 30-year-old in January.
