Real Madrid will have to cough up €40 million to secure the services of German left-back David Raum in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, David Raum is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions want to sign the German left-back in the summer transfer window. But RB Leipzig will demand €40 million to part ways with the in-form defender.

David Raum has made significant progress since joining Hoffenheim from Greuther Furth 18 months ago. But his stint at the Rhein-Neckar Arena lasted only one year before RB Leipzig signed him last summer. And the 24-year-old has been a regular for the Bundesliga giants this season.

The German left-back has turned out 22 times thus far this season, chipping in with one assist. And Raum’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.

Real Madrid might enter the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window. That is because Ferland Mendy faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu. And recent reports have suggested that the reigning La Liga champions are considering selling the French defender in the summer.

If Mendy leaves, Real Madrid will need to invest in a long-term replacement. Several left-backs, including Fran Garcia, have thus emerged on Los Blancos’ radar over a possible summer move. And David Raum also seems like an option worth considering for Real Madrid this year.

The German left-back has his best years ahead of him and should be able to offer a decade to Real Madrid. And despite his modest numbers, Raum is more adept at making a difference in the final third than Mendy. But RB Leipzig will not let the player leave for cheap, slapping a price tag worth €40 million on him.

Real Madrid should not have any qualms about shelling out €40 million to secure Raum’s services. But the Merengues will likely keep their options open before zeroing in on the replacement for Mendy. So it will be interesting to see if the German left-back arrives at the Bernabeu later this year. For now, the interest in the 24-year-old makes sense.
