La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly interested in German left-back David Raum, valued at €40 million by RB Leipzig.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, David Raum has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid. The German left-back will come with a price tag of €40 million if the reigning La Liga champions pursue him next year.
David Raum spent his formative years in his homeland, starting his youth career at Tuspo Nurnberg before SpVgg Greuther Furth as an eight-year-old. The 24-year-old graduated from the Greuther Furth academy but rose to prominence at Hoffenheim. And he has gone from strength to strength in the last year.
The German left-back lasted just one year at Hoffenheim before joining RB Leipzig this past summer. And Raum has been a regular for the Bundesliga giants, turning out 22 times thus far in all competitions. At the same time, he is the first-choice left-back for the German national side. In addition, the player’s progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will not necessarily prioritise signing a left-back next summer, with other positions taking precedence. The Merengues need to bring in a top-class right-back amid Dani Carvajal’s waning performance levels. They have thus shown interest in several players, including Malo Gusto.
In addition, Real Madrid might need to invest in a wide attacker if Eden Hazard leaves. The Belgian international faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu and might depart next summer. And with Real Madrid usually making a couple of signings, a left-back will only be an emergency option.
But if the left-back position becomes a problem area, David Raum will be a viable target. However, the German left-back is not the only player on Real Madrid’s radar, with Theo Hernandez also being a target. As for Raum, his price tag will not be astronomical, with RB Leipzig likely to demand €40 million for him.
However, it will be interesting to see if the reigning La Liga champions prioritise signing a left-back next summer. Raum might be open to joining Real Madrid. And it remains to be seen if a move worth €40 million sees the light of day.
