Chelsea are unwilling to pay over €35 million for key target Denzel Dumfries, as negotiations with Inter Milan could continue.

According to Italian outlet FC Inter 1908, Chelsea are keen on signing Denzel Dumfries. But they are unwilling to meet Inter Milan’s asking price. The Blues want a new right-back in this window but will not offer beyond €35 million for the Dutch full-back, who remains keen on moving away from San Siro.

Chelsea could further invest in their squad after a huge splurge this month to improve the squad. The Blues have had a busy January transfer window after bringing in notable players recently. They are not done yet, and more reinforcements could arrive.

The Blues have signed David Fofana, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile and Mykhaylo Mudryk in this window. The Ukrainian international cost around €100 million. Chelsea might now tick off the attacking list and switch their attention towards defensive reinforcements before the close of the month.

The right-back situation concerns Chelsea chiefs amid Reece James’s fitness troubles. The England international has suffered a setback after reportedly returning quicker from a knee injury. As a result, they feel they cannot trust James this season, hence the need for reinforcements.

Cesar Azpilicueta cannot be thrust in multiple games, and Todd Boehly has looked at options suitable to strengthen the squad. Tottenham target Pedro Porro is also under consideration, but Chelsea are somewhat behind Spurs in the chase.

Chelsea could reignite their interest in Denzel Dumfries, a player on their radar since December. The Dutch full-back is reportedly open to leaving Inter Milan this month. However, much will depend on the Serie A giants and their valuations of the full-back.

Dumfries’s agent is reportedly in London and could open discussions with suitors. Tottenham are considering a move if they cannot prise Porro away from Sporting CP. In the Dutchman’s case, Chelsea may have a stronger case. But they are not open to overpaying for the wing-back.

Inter Milan reportedly want a fee of €55-60 million. But Chelsea consider those demands high and will not pay over €35 million. However, the Italian club might consider the English side’s valuation too low, which could result in a move stalling.

Negotiations between the clubs could continue to find a solution. In light of the FFP rules amid their massive spending in the last six months, Chelsea could restrict their spending on a new right-back. Dumfries suits their system, which calls for a wing-back, and the Dutch full-back has played in a similar position at Inter in the last 18 months.
