Tottenham switches their attention towards Denzel Dumfries to solve the right wing-back problem, with the player’s agent currently in London.

According to journalist Marco Barzaghi, Tottenham are keen on Denzel Dumfries. They could look to sign the 26-year-old Dutchman this month. The Inter Milan star’s agent is reportedly in London as discussions could take place with Spurs, while Chelsea are also keeping tabs.

Antonio Conte will urge Tottenham to make key signings this month and reinforce some problematic areas of his squad. The pressure on the board and the manager reached another level after their North London Derby defeat to Arsenal at home.

Results have been awful since the restart, with Spurs only managing a single victory in the Premier League in four games. The dropped points have resulted in them losing their grip on the top four race. However, if the trend continues, they could stare down the barrel of a finish outside those places.

Hence, Conte wants proper reinforcements this month, with only two weeks left in the window. The Italian manager wants to bring in a new right-back and probably a creative/attacking midfielder to strengthen the team. Sporting CP’s Pedro Porro has been their primary target for the wing-back position. Negotiations, however, have proved problematic.

The player has also shown keenness to join Tottenham. However, Sporting will demand his €45 million release clause to part ways. Spurs only made an offer worth a reported €35 million, paid in three instalments, rejected by the Portuguese side.

Chelsea are also in the race. They might threaten to snatch the right-back from under Tottenham’s grasp. Reports suggest they remain open to paying the entire release clause. Conte could keep pushing for the Spaniard, but the latest story insists they might switch attention toward an alternative.

The alternative is Denzel Dumfries, who plays the role Conte seeks reinforcements in. The 26-year-old could open the doors for a Premier League switch, with his agent reportedly in London to discuss a transfer. Here again, Chelsea are present as a potential suitor, having chased the player for a considerable period.

Inter Milan are reportedly open to selling if they receive a bid of around €50 million. However, if they are to get that sort of money, it will represent massive profit on a player they bought for about €14 million 18 months ago. Tottenham and other suitors believe a bid worth €40-45 million would suffice.

If that is the case, Spurs might even look to spend the fee on top target Porro. The only hindrance is they may have to pay the total price to Sporting. They can structure the payments with Inter over a specific number of years.

As a player, Dumfries knows the role Conte seeks at Tottenham and could consider any approach from the club. His agent might also evaluate a potential proposal from Chelsea if that is to arrive. Overall, the 26-year-old Dutchman would prove a solid signing for Spurs.
