Tottenham Hotspur have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Sporting CP right-back Pedro Porro in January.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Sporting CP defender Pedro Porro has made up his mind to join Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The 23-year-old has long been on the wishlist of Antonio Conte.
Despite undergoing a summer overhaul, Tottenham have not performed to the desired level and have looked pretty patchy at times. They started the season on a positive note but have gradually lost the plot. And they have now slipped out of the top four in the top flight.
Right wing-back is one position where Conte is eyeing some definite change. None of the existing candidates has managed to impress the gaffer. And Emerson Royal or Matt Doherty could be shown the door this month.
Capable of playing as a right midfielder or right back, Porro could be an upgrade over the currently available options at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Sporting have made it clear the £40 million release clause needs to be paid in full. But the North London outfit believe an agreement could be reached for a lower price.
Eminent transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has now revealed the Spanish defender is willing to accept a new challenge on English soil.
“Understand Pedro Porro is top of the list for Tottenham as new right back. Spurs will try to sign Porro as the player would be keen on the move.
It’s difficult deal in January as Sporting have been very clear: €45m release clause or no way. Stance could change in June.”
A deal in January is very likely as the North Londoners will not allow their season to be derailed due to their inability to land priority targets. Conte is very specific when it comes to transfers and Fabio Paratici will be trying to get the deal done as soon as possible.
The prospect of playing in the top league would be too appealing for the youngster who also has one cap for Spain. Spurs could be left very thin if they fail to secure a move for the highly talented player.
