Barcelona will reportedly look to sign Marcelo Brozovic from Serie A club Inter Milan by offering Memphis Depay in an exchange deal.
According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Barcelona will aim to secure the services of Marcelo Brozovic this month. And the Catalan giants are ready to offer disgruntled striker Memphis Depay to sign the 30-year-old midfielder from Serie A club Inter Milan.
Marcelo Brozovic has been one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb. The Croat initially joined the Nerazzurri on loan before completing a permanent move in July 2016. Since then, he has been a leading light for Inter, playing a pivotal role in their recent ascent.
The 30-year-old has turned out over 300 times thus far for Inter, chipping in with 30 goals and 37 assists. And the Croatian international was instrumental in the club’s Serie A triumph in 2020/21. Brozovic’s progress over the years has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors.
Barcelona will need to bring in a successor to Sergio Busquets this year. While the veteran holding midfielder remains a regular for the Blaugrana, his performance levels have dropped. And the Barcelona captain might depart from Spotify Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.
Xavi Hernandez has midfielders like Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, and Franck Kessie at his disposal. But none of those players is a like-for-like alternative for Busquets in the Barcelona squad. Brozovic has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona. And recent reports had suggested that the Blaugrana might offer Kessie in an exchange deal for the 30-year-old.
But according to MARCA, Barcelona will offer Depay in a part-exchange deal to the Serie A giants to land Brozovic. Xavi Hernandez has green-lighted the operation, but it is unclear if Inter will be open to sanctioning the moves. Meanwhile, Depay also features on the radars of several clubs, including Atletico Madrid.
In addition, the disgruntled Barcelona striker is a target for Newcastle United. So it will be interesting to see if a part-exchange deal involving Depay and Brozovic sees the light of day. For now, the 30-year-old Croatian midfielder seems to be high on Barcelona’s agenda.
