Manchester United will compete for the signing of Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus next summer.

As per a report in Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United will shift their focus to Ajax star Mohammed Kudus as a part of their rebuilding process. The Ghanaian international lit up fireworks in the World Cup with his trickery on the pitch and has also been on the radar of Liverpool.

Kudus is greatly admired by Erik ten Hag as the pair combined pretty successfully at Ajax and the Dutch manager remains a fan of the player. But the imminent arrival of Wout Weghorst means a move has to wait till the summer.

The 22-year-old has a contract till 2025 and will cost the club in the region of £40 million. The likes of Anthony Martial and Anthony Elanga are yet to be utilised properly and they might be offloaded to make space for more arrivals.

Attacking midfield is one area where United might want to strengthen given the recent injury to Donny van de Beek. Bruno Fernandes has appeared as United’s chief architect but the Portuguese international cannot play all the games and currently, there is a dearth of such players.

Christian Eriksen has mostly been deployed in the heart of the midfield so Kudus will definitely have a free role at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are expected to let their intentions known to the Dutch club in the summer.

Talks haven’t really taken place but it is understood there is a belief a deal can be done keeping in mind United’s relations with Ajax. There have been numerous dealings between these two clubs and the relationship will further continue ahead.

Liverpool happen to be one of the interested parties. The arrival of Cody Gakpo will not restrict a move for the midfielder as the Reds need to undergo a complete overhaul which could witness the departure of several players.

Kudus is most effective when he is played down the middle. He can act as a centre forward but his ideal position is the number ten role while the player can also control the proceedings from a much deeper position.

He has been involved in six goals in the Champions League this season while in the Dutch top flight, he has contributed five goals so far. United’s attack has demonstrated far more reliability but Kudus’ addition would add more depth to the squad.
