La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly tracking the situation of Joao Cancelo amid his falling stature at Manchester City.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Joao Cancelo is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are keeping tabs on the Portuguese defender’s situation at Manchester City.

Joao Cancelo has seen his stock rise considerably since joining Manchester City from Juventus in August 2019. The 28-year-old had struggled for stability for much of his career till then but has come leaps and bounds at the Etihad. At the same time, he has become a regular for Portugal on the international stage.

The Portuguese international has been decent thus far this season, chipping in with two goals and five assists in 26 appearances. But Pep Guardiola has not utilised Cancelo much since the campaign resumed last month. And such a situation at Manchester City has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will delve into the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window. That is because Dani Carvajal has seen his performance levels drop considerably in the last few years. In addition, Lucas Vazquez is not as reliable as he has been at his peak for Real Madrid.

So the Merengues need to invest in a right-back who can compete with Carvajal in the coming years. Cancelo has thus emerged on Real Madrid’s radar over a possible move. And the reigning La Liga champions are keenly monitoring his situation at Manchester City amid his dropping stock.

But it behoves Real Madrid to keep alternatives if they cannot convince Manchester City to part ways with the 28-year-old. And several right-backs have emerged on Real Madrid’s radar, with Pedro Porro being one of the targets. As for the interest in Cancelo, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can coax Manchester City into a sale.

For now, the Merengues are keeping tabs on the Portuguese international’s situation at the Etihad. It will be interesting to see if Cancelo decides to leave Manchester City anytime soon amid the interest from Real Madrid.
