La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly considering a January loan move for 32-year-old French international Wissam Ben Yedder.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Wissam Ben Yedder is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants want to sign the 32-year-old French international on loan from AS Monaco in the January transfer window.

Wissam Ben Yedder is a familiar name for followers of Spanish football. The experienced striker rose to prominence during his three-year stint with Sevilla, reaching his peak at the Andalusian club. But he has been sensational since returning to France by joining AS Monaco in August 2019.

The 32-year-old has been the leading light for the Monegasque outfit, becoming the club captain a while ago. And Ben Yedder has been solid thus far this season, amassing 13 goals and three assists in 24 appearances. The French international’s performances have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona will not have any funds to sign players permanently in the January transfer window. So the Blaugrana will need to resort to the loan market to bolster the first-team squad, if at all. And with Memphis Depay reportedly closing in on joining Atletico Madrid, Barcelona might need a replacement.

While the Dutchman has not been a regular, Xavi Hernandez will need enough resources in a busy second half of the 2022/23 season. Several attackers have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar, including Yannick Carrasco. And Wissam Ben Yedder is also a viable target for the Catalan outfit, considering his recent form.

Recent reports have suggested that all is not well between AS Monaco and Ben Yedder’s camp. So Barcelona should have a decent chance to snare the 32-year-old French international away from the Ligue 1 outfit. And a loan move also makes sense considering his advancing years.

Apart from Ben Yedder, Barcelona also had Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a target. But they cannot re-sign the Chelsea striker due to FIFA and RFEF rules. So it will be interesting to see if Ben Yedder returns to La Liga by joining Barcelona on loan before the January transfer window shuts down.
