Sofyan Amrabat has decided to overlook Liverpool and Tottenham to join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

According to a report from Foot Mercato, Sofyan Amrabat is on the radar of Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. However, the 26-year-old prefers to join Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid when he leaves Serie A club Fiorentina.

Sofyan Amrabat has been in outstanding form this season, and he was a key player for Morocco as they reached the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The tough-tackling midfielder could prove to be a quality acquisition for Atletico Madrid, and it remains to be seen whether Diego Simeone’s side can agree on a deal with Fiorentina before the January window closes.

Apparently, the player’s representatives met with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp regarding a potential transfer. But the player prefers to play under Diego Simeone. Apparently, he likes the physical and aggressive style of play under the Argentine manager and believes he would be a better fit at the Spanish club.

The 26-year-old has been a key player for Fiorentina since joining the club. And the Serie A outfit could look to demand a premium for his services. Liverpool were ready to shell out a premium sum for the player.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly going through financial difficulties after crashing out of the UEFA Champions League in the group stages. They have already sanctioned the departure of Joao Felix on a loan deal. And a number of their first-team players have been linked with moves away from the club in recent weeks.

It remains to be seen whether Los Rojiblancos can afford Amrabat in January. Atletico Madrid could definitely use midfield reinforcements this month, and the 26-year-old could make an immediate impact.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are in desperate need of a new midfielder as well. And it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to turn their attention towards other players if a deal for Amrabat cannot be concluded. Liverpool are fighting for a place in the top four and will need to improve their midfield to secure Champions League qualification.

On the other hand, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is looking to add some depth and variety to his midfield. But with Amrabat looking to join Atletico Madrid, Tottenham will have to look elsewhere. The 26-year-old is at the peak of his powers right now. And whoever ends up signing him will have a top-quality player on their hands for the foreseeable future.
