Barcelona are still interested in Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix in the summer, who recently joined Chelsea on loan for the rest of the season.

According to Spanish publication SPORT, Joao Felix is still under consideration at Barcelona as the Spanish giants are in contention to make a move for the player next summer. The 23-year-old faces an uncertain future at Atletico Madrid.

Joao Felix recently joined Chelsea as the Blues have agreed to take the player under their folds for the remainder of the 2022/23 season. They paid a loan fee in the region of £10 million and have the commitment to pay his wages in full for the rest of the campaign.

The 23-year-old attacker showed signs of revival with Portugal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as he was given a long run in the side. His country crashed out of the tournament in the quarter-finals. But the youngster remained an option for his suitors.

Barcelona might sell Memphis Depay to Atletico Madrid, who want the Dutchman to fill the gap vacated by the departure of the Portuguese forward. Depay’s move will be permanent rather than a loan deal as anticipated earlier as the Catalan giants are ready to forego a massive amount of money only to release his wages off their book.

Despite their recent struggles, Barcelona would be hoping to negate their financial mess in the summer. And Felix has still some admirers left at Camp Nou. It is also suggested Chelsea could tap into the opportunity to make Felix’s move permanent by offering Romelu Lukaku to Atletico Madrid. But a deal will depend on a number of conditions.

Atletico extended Felix’s contract before sending him on loan. And they will likely want the 23-year-old attacker to impress on his temporary spell at Chelsea, which will allow them to recoup some of their invested sums.

The player cost in excess of £100 million when he arrived from Benfica. But despite being one of the most exciting talents, Felix has failed to live up to the expectations. Irrespective of his displays in the Premier League, there would not be a dearth of suitors for him in the summer. And Barcelona will surely be one of them.
