Chelsea could use Romelu Lukaku as a medium if they are to secure Joao Felix’s service on a permanent basis.

As per Give me sport, Chelsea could use Romelu Lukaku as leverage in a deal with Atletico Madrid which could see Joao Felix remain at Stamford Bridge on a permanent deal. The Portuguese is on the verge of joining the Blues on a loan deal for the remaining part of the season.

Chelsea have agreed to a loan move with Atletico which will see the Premier League outfit paying a loan fee in the region of €11 million. The Spanish giants will also be able to offload his wages for a brief period as the impending departure would see the English side paying his wages.

The 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the FA Cup proved to be the final nail in the coffin as they accelerated talks to facilitate a transfer. He will be Chelsea’s fourth signing this January and they will be planning further to redevelop their squad, especially the attacking contingent.

Chelsea splashed a whopping £100m on Lukaku but the move backfired badly and he has been shipped to Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal. The former Manchester United forward doesn’t have a very clear picture of his future but reiterated his desire to spend more time in Italy.

The Blues cannot bear the losses season after season and must sort out the mess as early as possible. A consensus can be reached if both parties find the idea suitable for their respective scenario.

Journalist Dean Jones believes Chelsea need to let go of some of their high-value signings and a Lukaku-Felix deal might be in the offing.

“Chelsea need a spark so it’s no major surprise they have bitten on this opportunity. There’s no obligation or first option here I believe, but the club do have assets, such as Lukaku for example, that they would be able to offer in the summer as a sweetener to get the deal done permanently if João Félix does well in this period and enjoys it.”

To make this deal happen Felix needs to show he is ready to take up the challenge in the Premier League.
