Newcastle United are interested in Lovro Majer in January but faces competition from Real Madrid for the Croatian midfielder.
According to Media Foot, Lovro Majer has emerged as a target for Newcastle United in January as Eddie Howe draws up plans to shore up the midfield. The Real Madrid midfield target could prove complicated to achieve this month, considering he only signed a new contract in October.
Lovro Majer has seen his stock rise in the transfer market in recent seasons since signing for French side Rennes. The Ligue 1 club identified his stature and swiftly handed him a new deal in October. The Croatian remains tied until at least 2027, but the report insists a summer move could become possible.
Real Madrid had shown an interest previously, taking many reports into account; they might still be keen on the midfielder. Many stories also mentioned Arsenal, but Mikel Arteta is currently looking at other positions in this window.
As for Madrid’s interest, Jude Bellingham is their current priority for the summer window. They might make a big splash for the England international, so they will pass up any opportunity in January to reinforce their squad. It does open the door for other clubs to come in for Majer this month.
Newcastle United are the latest club to show an interest in the Croatia international. Eddie Howe is keen to strengthen the squad and mainly looks at shoring up the midfield. The Magpies are in an indifferent position on the league table, as they remain outsiders, to mount a title challenge.

They remain in the market for attacking reinforcements. Howe might strengthen the midfield places. Bruno Guimaraes has singlehandedly managed to hold the area this season, and the manager would like another option in certain games.
Hence the interest in Majer persists, and Newcastle could attempt to sign him in January. The Magpies are an attractive prospect in the current climate, which could pique the player’s interest if an approach arrives.
Rennes could become tempted if a reasonable offer arrives, although the French side are inclined to ask for a significant fee from suitors. Majer remains on the radar for now. His chances of moving in the summer are higher than this month.
