Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona before the January transfer window closes.
According to a report from Fichajes, Graham Potter has requested the signing of Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona. And Chelsea are looking to sign the French international this month.
The Blues have reportedly intensified their efforts to sign the 25-year-old French international winger, who has been in impressive form for Barcelona this season. The player has had his fair share of injury woes since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund. But he seems to have gotten over his persistent issues and established himself as a key player for the Catalan club this season.
Dembele has flourished since the rival of Xavi Hernandez and could prove to be a quality acquisition for Chelsea. The Blues have been mediocre going forward this season, and Graham Potter needs to bring in an upgrade on players like Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic.
The French winger will add pace and flair in the final third. His arrival will benefit the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz. Both Chelsea forwards have struggled to score goals consistently because of the lack of ample service, and Dembele will certainly help create chances in abundance.
Given his performances so far this season, it would be quite surprising if Barcelona decided to sanction the departure midway through the campaign. And recent reports have also suggested that Dembele does not want to join Chelsea.
The Catalan giants could still push for the title and the domestic trophies this season. Losing a player like Dembele could derail their hopes of winning silverware. Barcelona also want to tie the French forward to a new contract and will advance discussions with him soon.
On the other hand, Chelsea are desperate for a place in the top four and will need to strengthen their squad significantly to overtake the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification. The Blues have already improved their defence with the signing of Benoit Badiashile and they will need to reinforce the attacking unit as well.
Chelsea have brought in talented young attacker David Fofana. But it seems that Potter is looking for a more established and proven individual like Dembele. The Barcelona forward has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past, and it remains to be seen whether he is tempted to move to Stamford Bridge if a concrete offer is presented this month.
