Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to cut their losses on Emerson Royal in the January transfer window.

According to Football Insider, Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur are ready to part ways with Emerson Royal in the 2023 January transfer window.

The Brazilian full-back joined Spurs from Catalan giants Barcelona in the summer of 2021. The 23-year-old has since made 60 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions and has one goal and two assists to his name.

Antonio Conte has often deployed either Emerson or Matt Doherty as the right wing-back since taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo midway through the 2021/22 campaign. However, despite receiving numerous opportunities, the 23-year-old has failed to nail down the starting spot for himself.

Emerson threw his position in the squad in doubt following a training ground bust-up ahead of the Boxing Day clash against Brentford. He made way for Doherty in the game and had to settle for a place on the bench against Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.

The 23-year-old appears to have fallen from favour at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And the north London club are prepared to cut him loose in January. Despite Spurs claiming there is no fallout, an exit could be on the cards for the Brazilian full-back.

A talented player, Emerson has struggled to perform to his best in a Spurs jersey. The performances of Ivan Perisic on the other flank have highlighted the 23-year-old’s shortcomings. More so, Doherty hit a purple patch in the friendlies during the World Cup hiatus and is now ahead of Emerson in the pecking order.

Tottenham’s excellent start to the season has been largely undone by their struggles of late. This has seen them plummet down the table. And the loss to Villa has taken them out of the top four for the time being.

While Emerson has not been pulling his weight, questions must also be asked about the coaching, and deployment of the player. Antonio Conte, for all his reputation, should be getting more out of a player who certainly has what it takes to succeed.

As things stand, Tottenham are looking for suitors for the Brazilian. And unless there is a significant upsurge in form, Emerson’s days in North London appear numbered. There might not be a shortage of interest either, with Inter Milan keeping tabs on his situation.

23 years old? And the rest! Get rid, although we have equally big wastes of
    space(s) on the pitch.
Sessegnon has not developed into the player we hoped he’d be. He’s not
even the player he was when he was 17! Bissouma? I mean what does he
actually do? He can’t create and he can’t defend, and worse, he can’t hold
up a ball and pick a decent pass in the middle of the park. Merse must have
been laughing behind our backs when he endorsed Bissouma’s purchase as one of
the best PL buys of the season! Why can’t our club get their thick heads around
the fact that we need (NEED) a midfield controller who can link with the forwards
and be a playmaker! Something we’ve missed for 3 years! Yes I know we’ve got
injuries and WC hangovers but our bench was awful too. So many DMs in our club yet
not one decent creator, esp with Kulu and Bents missing, while they are not
    the ‘creators’ we crave.
No balance back-up in the squad at all. Kane must be miserable as sin, especially
with Son now reverting to his old headless chicken role this season. Gil will improve,
lloris, Romero and Perisic will shake off their tiredness, and perhaps Richarlison will
get better soon, but even with that, it’s going to be a last dash race for 4th again, and
i don’t think we’ll make it this time.
