Real Madrid will reportedly face stiff competition for 25-year-old French international Theo Hernandez, who might leave AC Milan next year.

According to Italian outlet Inter Live, Chelsea will be in the equation to sign Theo Hernandez in the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old AC Milan defender is also a target for Real Madrid and might depart from San Siro next year.

Theo Hernandez has found a stable footing in his career since joining AC Milan from Real Madrid. The French international had failed to get going at the Santiago Bernabeu. But he has been one of the best full-backs in Serie A in the last three and a half years.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2022/23 season thus far, chipping in with two goals and four assists in 18 appearances. And Hernandez was also a pivotal figure for France as they reached the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. But the player’s stint with AC Milan might end next year, with Real Madrid and Chelsea interested.

Real Madrid might invest in a left-back in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties around Ferland Mendy’s future. The Frenchman has seen his stock fall after his fitness issues last year. And recent reports have suggested that Real Madrid might cash in on Mendy in the summer transfer window.

Theo Hernandez has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid. And while the 25-year-old failed to make his mark in his first spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, he is now on top of his game. But Real Madrid will face stiff competition from Chelsea for the French international.

The interest from Chelsea is surprising, considering they invested in Marc Cucurella in the summer. In addition, Ben Chilwell is a top performer whenever he is fit and available. So it is unclear how Hernandez will fit in the scheme of things at Chelsea. Nonetheless, the Blues have entered the equation for the AC Milan left-back.

Inter Milan might also look to prise the 25-year-old French international away from AC Milan. But Real Madrid might be Hernandez’s realistic destination. It will be interesting to see if he leaves AC Milan in the summer amid the Italian champions’ financial issues.
