Arsenal have been linked with a move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and are the front-runners to sign him.

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal are in pole position to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. And it will be interesting to see if they decide to make a move for the Lazio midfielder next month or wait until the summer.

Apparently, the 27-year-old could leave the Serie A clubs for around €40-50 million, and Arsenal should be able to afford him. But the Gunners might struggle to sign him in January and might have to wait until the summer.

Milinkovic-Savic has been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks, and the player reportedly turned down a switch to the London club in the past. However, he is impressed with their project now and is considering a move to Mikel Arteta’s side.

It is no surprise that Arsenal are looking to bring in a quality midfielder like the 27-year-old given their lack of depth and quality in the middle of the park. Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey are the only reliable midfielders at the club, and Arteta will need more options in order to rotate his squad and keep the players fresh.

The 27-year-old Lazio midfielder is one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Europe right right now, and the Serb would be an excellent acquisition. Milinkovic-Savic has the quality to make an immediate impact at the north London club, and he could transform them in the midfield.

Swiss international Xhaka has excelled in an advanced role this season, and the arrival of Milinkovic-Savic would give him more freedom to operate with.  The Serb could partner Partey at the heart of the Arsenal midfield and will add defensive cover, presence and drive to Arteta’s midfield. The 27-year-old is capable of scoring goals from the middle of the park as well.

If the Gunners can sign him for the reported fee, the move could look like a bargain in the coming seasons. Arsenal are currently on top of the league table and will hope to win the Premier League title this season. If they manage to secure Champions League qualification and win a trophy this season, there is no reason why they cannot attract the top talents from Serie A and other leagues.
