Arsenal have been linked with a move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and are in contact with his agent.

According to a report by Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is a target for Arsenal. And the Gunners have initiated contacts with the 27-year-old midfielder regarding a potential move. It will be interesting to see if the Gunners can agree on a deal with Serie A giants Lazio for the Serbian international.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has developed into one of the most complete midfielders around Europe. And he could prove to be quite a coup for Arsenal if they manage to secure his services. Recent reports have claimed that the player is fascinated by the north Londoners’ project.

The 27-year-old could improve Arsenal instantly in the middle of the park, with his all-action style of play. The Serbian international will score goals, shield the defence and drive the team forward with his playmaking abilities. Furthermore, he is at the peak of his career right now, and it seems like the ideal time for him to make the step up to a better league.

Milinkovic-Savic has the potential to establish himself as a Premier League star. And moving to Arsenal could give him the platform he needs right now. It will be interesting to see if Serie A giants Lazio are willing to sanction his departure in the upcoming windows.

A January move seems quite unlikely as Lazio will struggle without their best midfielder. They will also struggle to bring in a quality replacement midway through the season. It is fair to assume that Arsenal will have to wait until the summer transfer window regarding any potential move. But they are stepping up their efforts to sign him, having established contact with Mateja Kezman.

Mikel Arteta needs to add more bodies to his midfield, and the Lazio star is certainly one of the best options out there. The Gunners have been heavily reliant on Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey this season. And Arteta need to bring in players of similar calibre to challenge for the major trophies in the long run.

Arsenal are currently on top of the Premier League table, and it will be interesting to see if they can stay there until the end of the season. There is no doubt that Arteta has a quality squad. But the lack of depth in midfield could be a real problem for them as the season progresses.

Other challengers like Manchester City have a deeper squad and will fancy their chances of overtaking Arsenal in the coming months. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal can make progress in pursuit of Milinkovic-Savic in the coming weeks.
