Barcelona will unlikely entertain any offers for Frenkie de Jong amid continued interest from Manchester United.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona will not consider selling Frenkie de Jong anytime soon. The Dutch midfielder, a target for Manchester United, has seen his situation change radically, especially with Sergio Busquets approaching the end of his Barcelona stint.

Frenkie de Jong has seen his career go through a topsy-turvy ride in the past year. The Dutchman has been one of the most consistent performers for Barcelona since arriving from Ajax in July 2019. But financial issues have forced the Blaugrana to consider selling him this year.

The Catalan giants were happy to part ways with de Jong when Manchester United came calling in the summer. But a move did not materialise as the 25-year-old was hell-bent on remaining at Spotify Camp Nou. However, the player had to win over Xavi Hernandez after starting the 2022/23 season as a backup option.

The Dutch midfielder has gradually become a regular starter again, chipping in with two goals and one assist in 17 appearances this term. But de Jong remains the subject of intense speculation, with Manchester United still interested in signing him. And recent reports have claimed that the Red Devils are optimistic about securing his services.

The latest updates came in the wake of suggestions that the former Ajax midfielder was open to joining Manchester United. But the player has always maintained that he does not want to leave Barcelona and is eager to leave a lasting legacy at Camp Nou. And the report from SPORT will be music to his ears.

The Spanish publication has claimed that de Jong’s situation has changed radically in the last few months. And with Xavi Hernandez viewing him as a crucial member of the first-team squad, he will unlikely leave Barcelona anytime soon. So Manchester United will have to identify alternatives for the Dutchman.

Recent reports have linked Manchester United with Enzo Fernandez. And with the Argentine international becoming a top target, Manchester United can move on from de Jong. As for the 25-year-old, he looks set to remain at FC Barcelona for the foreseeable future.
