Real Madrid will reportedly demand €50 million to part ways with underperforming 27-year-old defender Ferland Mendy in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid will happily sell Ferland Mendy if a suitor makes an irresistible offer. Los Blancos will demand at least €50 million to part ways with the underperforming 27-year-old left-back.

Ferland Mendy had humble beginnings as he started his youth career at Ecquevilly EFC before joining Paris Saint-Germain. But the Frenchman never made it at PSG and turned professional at FC Mantois 78. And after cutting his teeth at Le Havre, he finally made his mark with Lyon. That is where the player captured the attention of Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old joined Real Madrid from Lyon in July 2019 and hit the ground running at the Santiago Bernabeu. Such was the French defender’s impact that he usurped Marcelo only a few weeks after arriving at Real Madrid. And Mendy has been the first-choice left-back in the last three and a half years.

But since suffering a calf injury in April 2021, Mendy has underperformed for Real Madrid. And the player is one of the few weak links in a formidable Real Madrid squad under Carlo Ancelotti. So Los Blancos might consider cashing in on him in the summer transfer window if the opportunity presents itself.

Real Madrid will follow the Casemiro model while mulling over Mendy’s future. While the reigning La Liga champions were happy to keep the Brazilian, they recouped a handsome transfer fee for him when Manchester United came calling. And Mendy will fall in a similar bracket. The 27-year-old has no shortage of suitors either.

Recent reports have linked Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain with Mendy. So the French international will have his options open if he leaves Real Madrid. And the Merengues have slapped a price tag worth €50 million on the underperforming 27-year-old.

The offer from a prospective suitor needs to be irresistible for him to leave Real Madrid. And it will be interesting to see if a club offers around €50 million to secure Mendy’s services. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will likely target Fran Garcia to replace the Frenchman next year.
