Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy as the Spanish giants might listen to offers for the defender.

As per Defensa Central, Manchester United and Chelsea could make an approach for Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy. The 27-year-old does not seem to have many admirers left at the Santiago Bernabeu and could be set for an early departure from the Spanish club.

Mendy was left out of France’s World Cup squad as Didier Deschamps preferred his Real Madrid colleague Eduardo Camavinga over him. There has been real confusion regarding his imminent future as some club sources believe he has not added much value to the team of late. So he needs to be sold in his prime.

But manager Carlo Ancelotti is assessing all his options and might prefer to keep the Frenchman at his disposal as the 27-year-old has been a regular starter. But the scenario might change next season.

As Real Madrid are gearing up for the potential arrival of Josko Gvardiol, Mendy’s future could hang by a thread. The Croatian defender’s move would mean David Alaba would be the preferred left-back, bringing an end to Mendy’s monopoly in that position.

Manchester United are pretty well stocked in the left-back department as both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been entangled in a healthy competition for a spot in the starting lineup. Brandon Williams can also be called up in emergency condition. So the Red Devils do not seem to be in a rush unless they offload one of the aforementioned players.

Meanwhile, Chelsea broke the bank to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion. But the Spaniard has struggled to set the right tone at Stamford Bridge. In addition, Ben Chilwell has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

But despite their struggles with the left-back position, they have other alarming problems which need to be addressed. Having played as first-choice left-back throughout his Real Madrid career, it would be difficult for him to play a second fiddle for any other club. So a move to Chelsea or Manchester United seems unlikely.
