Tottenham Hotspur have scouted PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo, who has been tipped to join Manchester United in January.

According to a report by ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for PSV forward Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old lit up the 2022 FIFA World Cup with his heroics, and several clubs have been circling him, including Manchester United..

Manchester United have long been an admirer of the player and even tried their hand at getting a deal done for the player in the summer. But PSV rejected an offer outright, and the Red Devils were forced to entice Antony from Ajax.

However, Gakpo’s jubilant form helped the Netherlands secure a quarter-final berth at the 2022 FIFA World Cup before they lost to Argentina. On the back of a brilliant campaign, Gakpo delivered on the biggest stage, and he has already been involved in 30 goal contributions this season.

The Red Devils will certainly use all their resources to lure the player to Old Trafford. But Manchester United might have to wage a battle with Premier League rivals Tottenham who have now entered the race.

There have not been significant outputs from both Son Heung-min and Richarlison. And the overreliance on Harry Kane has been a major concern for Tottenham. The English striker has been up to the mark from the start of the season but will need someone to ease the burden.

More of a left winger, the 23-year-old can operate from across the front three positions. And Antonio Conte could use his expertise pretty vigorously. The north Londoners almost survived a scare as they secured a place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.

Their lack of options could also make them suffer in the Premier League, although they have managed to hang on to their fourth place in the English top flight. But Conte is adamant about keeping Tottenham in the hunt for a place in the top four. However, Spurs will have to contend with Manchester United for the in-demand Gakpo.

Manchester United are more inclined towards a centre forward. But if Erik ten Hag feels he can use Gakpo centrally, then the move would be worth every penny. The Dutch forward has shown credentials to thrive in a top league. And Tottenham should be aware of Manchester United’s interest.
