Chelsea and Newcastle United have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Serie A club Fiorentina.
According to a report from Daily Mail, Chelsea and Newcastle United have joined the race to sign 26-year-old Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who is on Liverpool’s radar as well.
There have been numerous reports that the Reds have been in touch with the player’s entourage regarding a potential transfer. So it will be interesting to see if Chelsea and Newcastle can try and hijack his move to Anfield.
Amrabat has been exceptional at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and he helped his country reach the semi-finals of the competition. The 26-year-old will feel that this is the right opportunity for him to join a big club. And a potential move to Chelsea or Liverpool will be attractive for the player.
Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Liverpool are all in desperate need of central midfield reinforcements. And the 26-year-old international would be a solid acquisition for them. He will help shield the backline and help control the possession with his relentless work ethic. Furthermore, Amrabat would add some much-needed physicality to the Chelsea and Liverpool midfield as well.
The Reds have had plenty of problems in the midfield this season with a number of players struggling with injury problems. Furthermore, senior players like Jordan Henderson and James Milner have regressed in recent months, and Jurgen Klopp needs to bring in an upgrade.
As far as Chelsea are concerned, they will need to bring in someone who can replace the likes of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante. Both players are out of contract at the end of the season and could leave as free agents in the summer.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have improved their squad considerably since their takeover. But Eddie Howe is still looking to bring in reinforcements that can take the Tyneside giants to another level.
The Magpies are currently third in the league table, and a signing like Amrabat could help them secure Champions League football for the next season. The 26-year-old could form an exceptional partnership alongside Bruno Guimaraes at the heart of Newcastle’s midfield. But recent reports have claimed that Amrabat’s agency is pushing for a move to Liverpool.
