La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly considering a move for Daichi Kamada, valued at €30 million by Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to a report by German outlet Frankfurter Rundschau, Daichi Kamada is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Japanese midfielder is valued at €30 million but might leave Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
Daichi Kamada has established himself as one of the finest attacking midfielders in the Bundesliga since joining Eintracht Frankfurt Sagan Tosu in July 2017. While the 26-year-old had to bide his time, he has been a pivotal figure in the last three seasons and played an instrumental role in their UEFA Europa League triumph last term.
The Japanese international has enjoyed a superb 2022/23 season thus far, amassing 12 goals and four assists in 22 appearances. But Kamada’s contract status has left Eintracht Frankfurt in a spot of bother as he is in the final year of his deal. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.
It is unclear how a player like Kamada will fit into the system that Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez employs. But his potential free agent status makes him an attractive candidate for the Blaugrana to pursue. And Kamada might be an option to slot into Barcelona’s midfield unit if he arrives in a Bosman move.
Xavi currently has Pedri, Gavi, and Frenkie de Jong as his options to play as box-to-box midfielders. But with Sergio Busquets facing an uncertain future at Spotify Camp Nou, de Jong might be a long-term solution as the deepest midfielder. Kamada might thus be a viable option to fill the void as a box-to-box option.
Several other midfielders, including Alan Varela, are on Barcelona’s radar. But most of them are candidates to be a like-for-like successor to Busquets. So Kamada will offer a different option to Barcelona. The 26-year-old has a value of €30 million, but a Bosman move is likely.
The Japanese international also has several other clubs pursuing him, including Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund. But the opportunity to join Barcelona might be too attractive to turn down. It will be interesting to see if Kamada’s stint in the Bundesliga ends next year.
