Barcelona and Manchester United have reportedly joined Liverpool in the race to sign Sofyan Amrabat from Serie A club Fiorentina.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool will not be the only high-profile club pursuing Sofyan Amrabat. Barcelona and Manchester United have joined the race to sign the 26-year-old midfielder from Serie A club Fiorentina.

Sofyan Amrabat spent his formative years in the Netherlands before rising to prominence at FC Utrecht. Short spells at Feyenoord, Club Brugge and Hellas Verona followed before he finally found some stability at Fiorentina. And the Moroccan international has been a pivotal figure for the Serie A club.

The 26-year-old is currently in his third season with La Viola and has been a regular thus far for them, turning out 78 times while scoring once. But Amrabat’s stock has skyrocketed during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as he has been a pivotal figure for Morocco. And his performances have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona, Liverpool, and Manchester United setting their sights on him.

Barcelona will enter the market for a midfield addition next year amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Sergio Busquets. The veteran Spaniard is in the twilight of his career and might leave the Blaugrana in the summer transfer window. And Amrabat is the latest holding midfielder to emerge on Barcelona’s radar.

As for Liverpool, the Reds have been hotly pursuing the 26-year-old for several weeks. Recent reports also suggested that Jurgen Klopp has met with the player’s entourage. And with players like Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain likely to leave as free agents, Amrabat is a viable target for Liverpool.

Meanwhile, the interest from Manchester United is surprising, considering Casemiro has settled down at Old Trafford. But Amrabat can play as a box-to-box midfielder and might become an alternative to Christian Eriksen. So the Moroccan international is an option worth considering for Manchester United.

However, a move in the January transfer window is unlikely, with Fiorentina unwilling to sell him. And it will be interesting to see if Barcelona, Liverpool, and Manchester United can convince the Serie A club to part ways with the 26-year-old midfielder.
