La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly set to initiate talks with Cody Gakpo, a target for Manchester United and Liverpool.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid will soon be in touch with the representatives of Cody Gakpo. The PSV Eindhoven talisman is also a target for Liverpool and Manchester United.

Cody Gakpo has become one of the most sought-after attackers in the market this year. And he has enjoyed a seismic rise in stardom in 2022 due to his exploits for PSV Eindhoven and the Dutch national side. The 23-year-old first rose to prominence after a memorable 2021/22 season. He then started the ongoing campaign brilliantly.

The in-demand forward has 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this term. And Gakpo was sensational at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring thrice in five games for the Netherlands. His exploits have not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Liverpool setting their sights on him.

Real Madrid might need to enter the market for an attacker next year amid Karim Benzema’s fitness woes. In addition, Eden Hazard will likely depart from the Santiago Bernabeu amid his continued struggles. And Gakpo has emerged as a viable candidate to replace Hazard while being a backup for Benzema.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will also be in contention to sign the Dutch attacker. The Reds are in the market for an offensive reinforcement after failing to replace Sadio Mane adequately in the summer. And Gakpo is an option worth considering. Meanwhile, the player’s representatives will soon hold talks with Real Madrid.

But Liverpool and Manchester United will not be far behind, with the English clubs also set for discussions with his entourage. It will be interesting to see if the PSV Eindhoven talisman seals a big move in January. For now, the European bigwigs continue to clamour for his signature.
