Tottenham are close to signing Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta for €15 million as Antonio Conte eyes a creative presence in the team.

According to Calciomercato, Ruslan Malinovskyi is close to joining Tottenham for around €15 million in January. The versatile Ukrainian attacker is out of contract in the summer, and Spurs are inching closer to getting him on a decent deal from Atalanta next month.

Ruslan Malinovskyi seems sure to leave Serie A club Atalanta in January, with the Premier League his likely new home. The attacking midfielder has been dodging questions regarding his future. But multiple reports suggest Tottenham will be his destination.

Antonio Conte has a problem ahead of the January transfer window with his attacking setup at Tottenham. The Tottenham boss has some formidable names in his roster, such as Son Heung-min, Harry Kane, and Richarlison. But he still needs a creative presence behind them.

From a stylistic perspective, Conte has used two holding midfielders and left the creativity to the wing-backs and Kane. The presence of an attacking midfielder could free up the England captain to focus solely on final-third activities than dropping deeper to multiply his tasks.

Only Lucas Moura carries the profile of a creative player, and he plays out wide instead of the central areas. So Conte needs another presence, especially with the Brazilian likely to leave either in January or the summer. Besides, Tottenham do not have any playmaking through the middle, thus creating such a need.

Ruslan Malinovskyi’s name has rung the corridors of Tottenham for quite a while now, and the versatile Ukrainian attacker could make the switch in January. Director Fabio Paratici has tremendous connections with Serie A clubs, specifically Atalanta.

In recent seasons, the two clubs were involved in deals for Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini. And they could engage in another exchange and finalise an agreement for Malinovskyi. The versatile attacker is in the final six months of his contract with the Serie A club and is reportedly available for €15 million.

Atalanta initially wanted €18 million but remained open to €15 million if a deal could conclude. Tottenham are willing to shell out the required sum and get Malinovskyi to north London. The Ukrainian international will add some much-needed quality to the squad and give Conte a different option while playing certain opponents.
