Miguel Angel Marin has dropped a massive hint about the future of Joao Felix, boosting the chances of Manchester United and others.
According to 90min, Joao Felix could become available for a transfer in January after Atletico Madrid’s Chief Executive’s massive hint. The Portuguese international has been on a collision course with manager Diego Simeone, as he does not want to remain at the club anymore.
Joao Felix is the biggest bet Atletico Madrid took by investing huge sums in a young, unproven star. Those were chief executive Miguel Angel Marin’s thoughts on the player, who he very much likes. The relationship between the player and Diego Simeone has deteriorated from how things have transpired over the last 18 months.
Simeone’s style and tactical ideas do not match those of Felix’s. The Portuguese international’s performances have dwindled for Atletico in that period, although he remains one of the top talents in Europe. The impasse between the player and manager could result in a move away from the club.
Marin told TVE, “[Joao Felix] is the biggest bet this club has taken in its history. I personally think he’s a top talent, a world-class player.
“For reasons, it isn’t worth getting into – the relationship between him and the boss [Simeone], the minutes played, his motivation right now – it makes you think that the reasonable thing is that if there’s an option that’s good for the player, good for the club, we can look at it. I’d love him to stay personally, but I don’t think that’s the player’s idea.”
Felix wants to leave and has interest from Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea, among others. The Blaugrana had reportedly proposed a loan move with an option to buy.
Unfortunately for Barcelona, Atletico Madrid values Felix for more than €100 million. Despite the Catalans reportedly drawing up a plan to structure a deal, the Rojiblancos would want a swift arrangement and get the money on board.
Manchester United are keen and could be one of the few sides able to afford a player like Felix. Like other interested parties, Atletico quoted a fee of more than €100 million to the Red Devils for Felix. The news from Marin about the player’s situation in the background will boost Erik ten Hag’s chances of signing the Portuguese star.
Felix, however, will look at all offers on the table before deciding his future. Manchester United are an exciting team under Ten Hag, but other clubs could keep tabs on his situation after the reveal.
